Arezou Sadoughi, Ph.D., Assoc. AIA, is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sustainable Technology and the Built Environment at Appalachian State University, where her teaching and research focus on modular design and construction, affordable housing, Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DfMA), mass timber, healthy buildings, and emerging digital technologies. She is also co-founder of MassTiMod, an initiative focused on improving the productivity, sustainability, and performance of volumetric modular construction. Her recent work includes industry-academic research combining mass timber with volumetric modular construction and exploring autonomous building design, digital fabrication, and new methods of industrialized housing delivery.

As a Senior Research Fellow at the Center for Offsite Construction, Arezou brings together design, building science, construction management, and applied research to examine how buildings can be conceived more deliberately for manufacturing and assembly. At Appalachian State, she has led interdisciplinary student and industry collaborations focused on housing innovation, modular mass-timber systems, BIM, construction efficiency, resiliency, and affordability. Arezou earned her Ph.D. in Design, Construction and Planning from the University of Florida, where her doctoral research examined the incorporation of indoor-air-quality considerations into multifamily affordable-housing policy, design, and construction.
